The State of Georgia is divided into 159 counties (the second largest number of counties in a given state). Arizona is divided into 15 counties. Athens-Clarke County, where I currently reside, has a population of approximately 117,000 and covers 121.28 square miles. Maricopa County, where I was born and raised, has a population of approximately 3.8 million and covers 9,224.27 square miles. One of the weirdest transitions for me moving from Arizona to Georgia was getting used to having more counties here than Arizona has cities. Friday, February 17, 2012
