Last night we had a visitor staying at our place. She is a friend of my roommates and needed a place to stay to break up the long drive from Virginia to Florida. Well, last night at approximately 10:40pm, she came upstairs. She quietly, calmly and politely asked, "Do you have a plunger I can use? And maybe a towel?" We responded in the affirmative, and retrieved the plunger from Charlotte's bathroom, and grabbed a spare towel from the other bathroom. And we followed her downstairs to help clean up the guest bathroom. Much to our surprise, we were met with about half an inch of standing water covering the bathroom floor, and the hallway, extending nearly to the front door. The water had also creeped into the living room and into the kitchen pantry. It turned out that we needed a lot more towels.

And cleaning up our flood has been my highlight of the week. Truly. I loved it. We three roommates, with a little help from visitors, rolled up our pant legs (that was done individually--not with the help of our visitors) and got to work using towels, mops and whatever resources we could find to transport all the excess water from our floors to outdoors. And we got 'er done. It felt good to work together on a common project. Our guest bathroom toilet is now off, our floors are dry, and all of our towels have been washed. And I have a new memory of a good time working together with friends.
